How to Find Freelance Clients on LinkedIn in Pakistan

Why LinkedIn Is Worth Your Time

Pakistan's freelance sector earned close to $856 million in the first nine months of FY26 alone, most of it still flowing through Upwork and Fiverr. LinkedIn works differently, and that difference is the point: no bidding against hundreds of other proposals, no platform commission on what you land, and access to clients who are hiring based on your actual professional presence rather than your lowest bid.

Building a Profile That Gets Found

Your headline should say exactly what you do and who you do it for, not a vague title. Your About section should read like a case for hiring you, not a resume summary.

A few specifics that matter:

  • Use the exact keywords a client would search for, in your headline, About section, and experience entries
  • Link directly to portfolio work, past projects, or client testimonials rather than just listing skills
  • Ask past clients or colleagues for written recommendations, these carry real weight with Pakistani clients specifically, where word of mouth still drives most hiring decisions

Using LinkedIn's Actual Client-Facing Tools

Most guides skip this entirely: LinkedIn has a Services Marketplace where you list your freelance offerings directly, and clients searching for your specific skill can find and message you without you ever sending a cold pitch. For Pakistani freelancers in IT, design, writing, and consulting, this is a genuinely underused way to get discovered by international clients.

Beyond that, joining and actively participating in industry-specific groups puts you in front of people already interested in your field, not a cold audience.

Outreach That Actually Gets a Reply

A generic connection request gets ignored. Before you send one:

  • Check the person's profile for something specific to reference, a shared connection, a recent post, a company detail
  • State clearly what you do and how it applies to their situation, in one or two sentences
  • Skip the immediate pitch. Offer something useful first, a relevant article, a quick observation about their business, before asking for anything

Getting Paid Once You Land a Direct Client

This is where LinkedIn client acquisition actually differs from Upwork or Fiverr, and where most freelancers get caught off guard. A client found on LinkedIn isn't automatically inside any platform's payment or dispute system. You need to set that up yourself.

Two real options:

  • Invoice directly and get paid through Wise. For direct international clients, Wise generally offers better exchange rates and lower fees than Payoneer, and it's become the preferred route specifically for direct billing rather than marketplace payouts.
  • Use Upwork's Direct Contracts feature. If you want escrow protection and dispute assistance without your client needing an existing Upwork account, Upwork lets you create a contract for a client you found anywhere, including LinkedIn, at a reduced 5 percent freelancer fee instead of the usual marketplace rate. The client funds the contract in escrow before work starts, same protection as a normal Upwork job.

Whichever route you choose, use formal banking channels for anything meaningful. The State Bank of Pakistan requires freelance income above certain thresholds to be reported when it's repatriated, and going through proper channels keeps you compliant with both SBP and FBR rules, not just easier to track for your own bookkeeping.

Your Tax Position

Income from direct international clients counts as export income the same way marketplace earnings do. Registering with the Pakistan Software Export Board can qualify properly documented IT and IT-enabled export income for a significantly reduced tax rate compared to standard slabs. This matters more with direct clients specifically, since there's no platform automatically tracking and reporting your earnings for you.

Conclusion

LinkedIn rewards a different kind of effort than Upwork or Fiverr: fewer proposals, more relationship-building, and clients who come to you once your profile and content actually demonstrate what you can do. The tradeoff is that you're responsible for your own contracts and payment protection instead of relying on a platform's built-in system, so set that up deliberately rather than an afterthought once a client is ready to pay you.
