While applying on Upwork, there's one thing you might not have built yet that potential clients will ask for: a portfolio.
Ali Zafar Basra's story is exactly why that matters.
In his own words: "I'm feeling glad to tell all of you that I've completed my first project on Upwork. I got my first job within the first 25 days after I created my account. I was approached by four clients, one was a fixed price contract and the other three were hourly. All three hourly clients were interested in hiring me after our introduction meeting, but asked me to show them my recent work. I had no current work to show them, so I lost those three opportunities. My suggestion is to first build your portfolio with a Pakistani client. Right now, I've got a Lahori client from OLX. So first, manage to build your portfolio, then move to Upwork."

Four clients showed real interest in his first 25 days. He closed one and lost three, for the exact same reason each time: nothing to show them. That's the problem you'll run into most with international clients, and even local ones will want an offer good enough to work with a beginner.
If you want to learn how to build that portfolio the right way, alongside the skill itself, enroll in Aamir Ahmer Academy today.
